Yves Saint Laurent Y Intense Review

Interesting spin on a beloved classic.

Yves Saint Laurent’s Y EDP Intense is a more refined and mature take on the Y DNA, whilst still being very versatile and enjoyable.

Presentation:

The bottle, like the rest of the Y line, features the brand’s name on a silver letter Y. This bottle opted out of the gradient colour of the EDP, and instead is a dark blue throughout. The box looks almost identical to it’s EDP counterpart, the only differences being the name at the bottom and being slightly lighter.

Notes:

The main notes of this fragrance are:

  • Ginger,
  • Juniper Berries,
  • Bergamont,
  • Sage,
  • Geranium,
  • Lavender,
  • Vetiver,
  • Patchouli,
  • Cedar.

Thoughts:

The opening has a lack of the EDP’s distinctive apple note, instead opting for a ginger and juniper berry-based approach. As it dries down, the Y DNA is still present, but it evolves into a more mature scent, as opposed to Y EDP’s more youthful scent profile. As the hours progress, the woods at the base reveal themselves. Overall, I believe this scent is more mature than it’s EDP counterpart, and also potentially more versatile as it lacks the sweetness of the EDP that some find too much. I think this fragrance is blind-buy worthy as it is very inoffensive and quite refined, although it is nothing groundbreaking. The performance is a respectable 6-8 hours, with a moderate projection. However, this fragrance can get overwhelming with too many sprays.
